Just typing the word \u201cMicroProse\u201d <\/b>brings back <\/b>so many <\/b>memories <\/b>from 40+? years ago. IIRC, almost every game I had came from that studio <\/b>and\/<\/b>or<\/b> SSI, <\/b>Matrix, <\/b>Battlefront, HPS, <\/b>etc.<\/b>\u00a0<\/b>Although, just because I listed a lot of companies, that doesn\u2019t mean there were a lot of turn-based games among them<\/b>.<\/b><\/h5>\n

Battlefield Commander WWII <\/a><\/em>is no exception to the quality games they produced back then\u2026 and finally, after a long wait, even now it’s a superb, Early Access game.<\/p>\n

Battlefield Commander WWII<\/i> is still a brain twister. Hardcore strategy, man. Everything\u2019s done in phases; So, you want them set to kill, not simply \u201cstun\u201d. (Oh!, sorry I was thinking phasers\u2026 but, still the settings apply, [not necessarily to the actual kinds of weapons\u2026]) At least it gives you time to complete each phase\u2026 movement, battles, reinforcements, etc., due to it being turn-based.<\/p>\n

One of the best starting options is that you can play as either Germany or Russia. From the overhead, strategic map, you don\u2019t know exactly what units you have. It\u2019s all done with \u2018circled numbers\u2019. Then, like any other game, when you and your enemy try to occupy the same region, the battle begins.<\/p>\n

The next cool part of Battlefield Commander WWII<\/i> is that you can auto-resolve each battle or <\/i>play them out. Unless you\u2019re a helluva lot better than I am, for example, if you get attacked by the enemy\u2019s \u201c300\u201d troops and you have \u201c43\u201d\u2026 yeah.. something like that I\u2019d auto-resolve. Once you start getting closer to \u2018even\u2019, that\u2019s where the brainiac fun begins!<\/p>\n

You have 235 versus the 300 they just attacked you with? Play it out and see if you can take them down. Play it out and see if you can just hurt them very badly? When\/if you decide to go into battle, with units, and not on the overhead map anymore, then <\/b>you find out what units you actually have. (Being in Early Access, I hope there\u2019s a way for them to figure out how to \u2018hover\u2019 over your circled number on the overhead map\u2026 so you\u2019ll be a lot less surprised when you go into actual battle.)<\/p>\n
