Swinging your bat at enemies seems to damage them, but there’s little feedback, and the same is true of enemies attacking you. I thought I was holding off a giant spider well enough, only to realise in the aftermath that I’d lost ninety percent of my health.

You no longer need to buy soap if you want to use it. Instead you have a reserve that refills over time which means you don’t have to waste money on replacing it. This is nice considering soap really speeds up the cleaning process. In fact I did pretty much the whole game by soaping everything first as it almost always ensured no spots were missed.

Keeping the doors closed is easy enough as there aren’t any shenanigans involving them beyond you opening or closing them to pass through. The jukebox, though, is more irritating. Occasionally it will start playing music and you’ll need to go and switch it off. Easy enough, but it becomes annoying once it starts teleporting around meaning that you’ll need to go and hunt it down.

For the uninitiated though, your job is to complete eight fights on the way to the centre of heaven, picking up new cards and abilities between each battle. Battles take place in a carriage on your strangely vertical train. The lower three floors have space for monsters to defend the carriage, with your pyre on the top floor being the target of your enemies. Each round, new enemies will enter the train on the bottom floor, and you’ll play monster cards to hold them off, bolstered by spells to boost your power and directly attack enemies.

KIBORG – Updates Needed https://bigbossbattle.com/kiborg-review/ Tue, 20 May 2025 18:00:32 +0000 https://bigbossbattle.com/?p=85775 Roguelikes used to be somewhat of an enigma to me. I never used to see the appeal of smashing my head against a wall over and over to progress in small increments. Then I got shown some very good ones, such as Slay the Spire, Cult of the Lamb; Heck, even Balatro! So, when KIBORG slid […]

Warriors: Abyss – Dynastic https://bigbossbattle.com/warriors-abyss-review/ Tue, 08 Apr 2025 13:00:08 +0000 https://bigbossbattle.com/?p=84852 When you complete a combat encounter, you’ll get to choose which path to take next, much like in Hades. Many of these will lead you to a tree which will allow you to form an alliance with one of your unlocked heroes. Each hero has a different set of emblems that will power up your chosen character for the remainder of the run. For example, Hanzo Hatori will improve your speed and evasion, whilst Zhang He can improve your ice attacks.

Under Defeat – Helicopter hero https://bigbossbattle.com/under-defeat-review/ Wed, 12 Mar 2025 14:00:14 +0000 https://bigbossbattle.com/?p=84730 At a glance, this appears to be a fairly by-the-numbers shooter. It does have a neat twist in that your helicopter can pivot. Now, this isn’t the only game to do this by a long shot, but it does play into the manoeuvrability of choppers, and allows you to aim your shots somewhat in a 180 degree arc in front of you.

Dreamcore – Sweet dreams? https://bigbossbattle.com/dreamcore-review/ Thu, 06 Mar 2025 14:00:03 +0000 https://bigbossbattle.com/?p=84662 Much like other games of its ilk, Dreamcore has you lost in a bizarre liminal space with the sole objective of finding your way out. You see the world through your character’s body-cam, giving the game an eerie found-footage motif that also applies an 80s VHS style filter. It looks interesting, and whilst the head-bobbing was a bit off-putting at first, I got used to it quickly and found it added to the immersion.
