Powerwash Simulator 2 – Cleanin’ up

Other changes are minor, but welcome. You no longer need to buy soap if you want to use it. Instead you have a reserve that refills over time which means you don’t have to waste money on replacing it. This is nice considering soap really speeds up the cleaning process. In fact I did pretty much the whole game by soaping everything first as it almost always ensured no spots were missed.

Anyway, spooky things do happen, and you’ll be under threat from them before too long. Keeping the doors closed is easy enough as there aren’t any shenanigans involving them beyond you opening or closing them to pass through. The jukebox, though, is more irritating. Occasionally it will start playing music and you’ll need to go and switch it off. Easy enough, but it becomes annoying once it starts teleporting around meaning that you’ll need to go and hunt it down.

Centum – Actual Intelligence

I describe Centum as being more akin to a visual novel, as really there aren’t any serious puzzles to solve, inventory items to manage, or information to carry from area to area. If you played the original, Monster Train 2 is more of that but with a few new twists. For the uninitiated though, your job is to complete eight fights on the way to the centre of heaven, picking up new cards and abilities between each battle. Battles take place in a carriage on your strangely vertical train. The lower three floors have space for monsters to defend the carriage, with your pyre on the top floor being the target of your enemies. Each round, new enemies will enter the train on the bottom floor, and you’ll play monster cards to hold them off, bolstered by spells to boost your power and directly attack enemies.

Warriors: Abyss – Dynastic

When you complete a combat encounter, you’ll get to choose which path to take next, much like in Hades. Many of these will lead you to a tree which will allow you to form an alliance with one of your unlocked heroes. Each hero has a different set of emblems that will power up your chosen character for the remainder of the run. For example, Hanzo Hatori will improve your speed and evasion, whilst Zhang He can improve your ice attacks.

Under Defeat – Helicopter hero

At a glance, this appears to be a fairly by-the-numbers shooter. It does have a neat twist in that your helicopter can pivot. Now, this isn’t the only game to do this by a long shot, but it does play into the manoeuvrability of choppers, and allows you to aim your shots somewhat in a 180 degree arc in front of you.

Gameplay is somewhat like the more recent Ballionaire, with you getting a set number of spins in which to reach your target. After each spin, you get to add a new symbol to your reels so that you have a greater chance of winning big money. Cursed Feed – Frightening footage?

The spooky scenes are a mixed bag. Some of them are some basic flickering lights or some blood trickling from the ceiling, which are fine, if generic. The interesting ones were when seemingly live-action footage was placed into the action. I really liked this, as it evoked campy horror games like The 7th Guest and Night Trap from years gone by.

This should be simple enough, but every door has various points of interest around it, from simple things like cabinets to open and find new items, to computer screens that can be tampered with to reveal a secret code.

The world itself feels interesting, and something that could have been lifted from The Day of the Tentacle with the slightly off-shaped buildings, brightly coloured characters, and repeated fourth wall breaks. All those characters were a real highlight, which is kind of essential for this sort of game alongside those puzzles. You’ll be dealing with time travel, false memories, and alternate universes throughout the seven-or-so hours it’ll take you to reach a conclusion. That isn’t to say I didn’t enjoy the story. The flipping back and forth between time periods worked quite well to flesh out moments that would be happening elsewhere (or should that be elsewhen?) and the connections between the characters in all three time periods play into each other effectively.

The camera is an interesting inclusion, as it’s really the most useful piece of kit you have. This may be a side-scrolling game, but at any point you can activate your camera and take photos of anything on screen, including things that your character shouldn’t be able to see. It isn’t just some photo mode though, as when you take a picture of anything of interest, it’s added to your compendium and includes information about it.

Funko Fusion – Crusty jugglers

Repetition is the greatest issue with Funko Fusion. Some of the puzzles make quite creative use of the game’s mechanics, but they tend to get used over and over again. The combat is the real issue though. You’ll be fighting so many enemies that are pretty much the same but with a different skin. Sometimes they’re immune to ranged damage, sometimes you’ll have to destroy a shield before finishing them off, but you’ll always be shooting and hitting absolute hordes of cookie cutter enemies that in many cases respawn endlessly.
